Mumbai, July 23: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken significant action against Mohammad Waris, the main accused in the violence that occurred in Sambhal on November 24, 2024. The Yogi government has imposed the National Security Act (NSA) on Waris, who is considered the mastermind behind the incident.
Waris is reportedly associated with Sharik Satha, who has been hiding in Dubai since 2012. He is accused of providing illegal weapons and firing during the violence, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
Prior to this, the government had already imposed the NSA on two other individuals involved in the case: Mulla Afroz and Mohammad Ghulam.
This move comes at a time when the investigation report regarding the violence is about to be released. The imposition of the NSA on Waris is seen as a strict action by the government against the violence.
On November 24, 2024, during a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, it was revealed that Waris had been supplied with illegal weapons.
According to police, Waris, along with Afroz and Ghulam, conspired to incite violence under the direction of Sharik Satha. Waris was arrested on January 25, 2025, followed by the arrest of Mulla Afroz and ten other accused individuals. Mohammad Ghulam was apprehended on February 20, 2025, at the Sambhal bus station.
Police reports indicate that Mulla Afroz, a property dealer, also worked for Sharik Satha. He was involved in stealing luxury vehicles from the Delhi-NCR region and selling them in Nepal, West Bengal, and Assam.
It is noteworthy that twelve cases have been registered concerning the Sambhal violence, with 138 rioters arrested so far. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has submitted a 4,025-page charge sheet in six main cases to the court, naming several individuals, including Samajwadi Party MP Jiya Ur Rahman Bark, Jama Masjid Committee President Zafar Ali, Mulla Afroz, and Mohammad Waris as accused.
