Congress Demands Accountability from Government Over Rising Inflation and Other Issues

Patna, June 7: Congress National Spokesperson Professor Ajay Upadhyay addressed the media in Patna on Sunday, criticizing the central government over rising inflation, the NEET paper leak, and increasing domestic gas prices. He stated that the public is suffering due to inflation and that the India Alliance will hold the government accountable on these issues. During the discussion, he also shared insights about the upcoming meeting of the India Alliance.

Upadhyay announced that a significant meeting of the India Alliance is scheduled for June 8, where pressing national issues will be discussed. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of reneging on promises made after the Lok Sabha elections. He emphasized that the Prime Minister has consistently placed an economic burden on the public. Despite falling crude oil prices in the international market, the common people did not receive any relief. Over the past five years, the government has extracted ₹44 lakh crore from the public’s pockets. Recently, petrol and diesel prices have seen a gradual increase of nearly ₹8, and the prices of gas and LPG have also been rising, exacerbating the hardships faced by the public due to inflation.

The Congress spokesperson insisted that the India Alliance demands the central government to ensure accountability regarding inflation and other public-related issues. He also called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak and other student-related matters. He stated that the government must answer for the NEET paper leak, CBSE issues, and injustices faced by children. Pradhan should resign on moral grounds, and accountability must be established in this matter.

Regarding the absence of DMK from the upcoming India Alliance meeting, Upadhyay clarified that Congress has never decided to exclude DMK from the coalition. He expressed that they wanted the government to reflect the mandate given by the people of Tamil Nadu and not allow the BJP to dominate. Before the elections, DMK was aligned with them. In light of post-election circumstances, they reached an agreement with Vijay, but no decision was made to exclude DMK from the India Alliance. If DMK has made a separate decision, it is their independent choice.

The Congress party criticized the central government’s policies following a ₹29 hike in domestic gas cylinder prices. Upadhyay noted that just a few days ago, commercial gas cylinder prices were raised, and now the increase in domestic gas prices has disrupted the household budget of the common man.

He pointed out that incomes are not rising, salaries remain stagnant, yet inflation continues to climb. It has become challenging for people to manage their expenses. Kitchen costs have surged, and the increases in petrol, diesel, and gas prices are affecting the prices of all goods. For years, there has only been rhetoric, while the government has failed to fulfill its responsibilities. Running a government is different from merely contesting elections and forming one.

The Congress leader made it clear that the upcoming India Alliance meeting will prominently address inflation, unemployment, the education system, and issues concerning the general public, demanding answers from the central government on these matters.
