Opposition Strikes Back as LPG Cylinder Prices Rise in India

New Delhi, June 7: The opposition in India is once again targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following a hike in domestic LPG cylinder prices. Prominent leaders from the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress Party have criticized the government for this increase.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav took to social media platform X to express his discontent, stating, “The rising cost of bread has upset the plate; from the BJP, all hope has now shattered.”

Earlier, the Congress Party posted on its official X handle, “The whip of ‘Inflation Man Modi’ has struck again. Domestic gas cylinders have become 29 rupees more expensive. Modi’s agenda is clear: extract money from the public and fill the pockets of wealthy friends.”

It is noteworthy that government oil companies have increased the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders by 29 rupees. Consequently, the price in Delhi has risen from 913 rupees to 942 rupees, effective today, June 7. This follows a previous increase on June 1, when commercial LPG cylinder prices also rose by 42 rupees.

Over the past five months, commercial LPG cylinder prices have seen significant hikes. In February, there was an increase of 49 rupees, followed by another rise of 115 rupees in March.

Recently, the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Delhi and surrounding areas also saw a rise of 2 rupees per kilogram. Since May 15, CNG prices have been adjusted four times, totaling an increase of 6 rupees per kilogram.
