Lucknow, June 25: Uttar Pradesh‘s Finance Minister Suresh Khanna has emphasized that the Emergency remains a significant chapter in India’s history. He welcomed the inclusion of the Emergency in NCERT’s new textbooks, labeling Congress as the true enemy of the Constitution.
In a conversation, Khanna stated, “The biggest attack on the Constitution was executed by the Congress party. When in power, they imposed the Emergency, completely disregarding the Constitution and turning the entire nation into a prison. Millions were imprisoned. Following that, Congress faced a massive defeat in the elections. In the 1977 elections, they secured only 153 out of 528 seats, while the Janata Party gained a majority. Congress has consistently trampled on the Constitution for personal gain, and it is crucial to remind the public that Congress is the real enemy of the Constitution to prevent a repeat of such an Emergency.”
Regarding the inclusion of the Emergency and Vedas in NCERT’s new books, Khanna remarked, “Quality education should be provided through appropriate mediums. Our policymakers must have deliberated thoroughly before deciding to include these topics in the new NCERT books.”
Khanna also took to X, stating, “The day of the Constitution’s murder (June 25, 1975) marks a dark chapter in Indian democracy when the Emergency was imposed, severely undermining the Constitution’s core spirit and democratic framework. I pay tribute to every voice that fought to protect democracy against that tyranny.”
On the 51st anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak remarked on the BJP’s observance of ‘Constitution Murder Day,’ stating, “The Congress party should apologize to the public. After independence, the way Congress violated people’s fundamental rights and imposed the Emergency solely to protect their leaders’ positions was a betrayal of democracy. Today marks 51 years since that event, and even now, wherever Congress is in power, they continue to overlook the people and harm public interest.”
