Tragic Fire in Islamabad Hospital Claims Lives of 15 Infants

Islamabad, August 26: A devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital has resulted in the tragic deaths of 15 newborns. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow and ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

According to reports from Geo TV, the fire broke out around 6:45 AM in the nursery, allegedly caused by an air conditioner’s compressor explosion. The Prime Minister’s Office shared this information via a post on the social media platform X.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his deep condolences to the families affected by this heartbreaking event. He emphasized that such a tragedy involving innocent children can never be compensated. He directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the causes of the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt grief over the incident and stated that he shares in the deep pain of the parents. He prayed for patience for the grieving families.

Rescue officials reported that fire-fighting teams managed to control the blaze after arriving at the hospital and commencing operations. Even after extinguishing the fire, teams continued cooling operations on-site to prevent any possibility of rekindling.

The district administration deployed six fire brigade vehicles and four ambulances as part of emergency measures. This incident has raised serious concerns regarding safety protocols in the hospital, particularly in wards housing vulnerable newborns. An inquiry committee has been established, chaired by the additional commissioner, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
