Congress Candidate Meenakshi Natarajans Nomination Rejected: A Blow to Democracy, Says Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu

New Delhi, June 10: Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has sharply criticized the rejection of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha. He described the move as a desperate attempt to undermine democratic processes.

Mallu took to social media platform ‘X’ to express his discontent, stating, “We strongly condemn the wrongful rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination. Fabricating ‘errors’ where none exist is a desperate attempt to weaken democratic processes and mandates. We will expose this conspiracy through every available legal and constitutional avenue.”

The Congress party had nominated Natarajan for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 18 in Madhya Pradesh. However, the returning officer rejected her nomination papers, citing that Natarajan concealed information about an ongoing case in a Telangana court. Congress has labeled this as a political conspiracy.

A crucial meeting is set to take place on Wednesday with a Congress delegation at the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding this matter. The party aims to register its objections to the rejection and demand appropriate action from the commission.

Congress leaders assert that the BJP is misusing administrative machinery to eliminate opposition candidates from the electoral race. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has previously accused the BJP of adopting ‘undemocratic methods,’ claiming that the party is willing to go to any lengths to seize Congress’s Rajya Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Senior Congress leader Vivek Tankha also clarified that there are no criminal charges against Natarajan. He noted that only a notice had been issued, to which a response has already been submitted to the election office.
