Madhya Pradesh Unveils Major Solar Projects, Aiming for Renewable Energy Leadership

Bhopal, June 30: Central Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi, announced on Monday that Madhya Pradesh is rapidly becoming one of India’s leading renewable energy hubs.

During the inauguration of two significant solar energy projects in the Neemuch and Shajapur districts, he urged the state to further enhance its clean energy capacity.

Joshi highlighted that the state’s provision of solar energy at a rate of ₹2.14 per unit is a historic achievement. The launch of the 500 megawatt Neemuch Solar Park and the 450 megawatt Shajapur Solar Park marks a significant step in India’s green energy transition.

These projects, costing approximately ₹2,080 crores, will strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s renewable energy production capacity.

He stated, “Madhya Pradesh is providing the cheapest solar electricity in the country at ₹2.14 per unit, showcasing the state’s commitment to affordable and clean energy.”

The central minister also emphasized that the state should aim for a target of 10 gigawatts of wind energy capacity in the next two years.

He mentioned the 440 megawatt Solar-plus-Storage project in Morena and the Gandhi Sagar Pumped Storage project in Neemuch, noting that these initiatives will ensure affordable and reliable electricity.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav affirmed the state government’s commitment to making Madhya Pradesh a leader in clean and sustainable energy production.

He added that the state is focused on attracting investments and creating jobs.

“Our goal is green development. Madhya Pradesh has become self-reliant in electricity production and is now moving towards becoming the leading state in clean, affordable, and sustainable energy,” he said.

Yadav noted that Neemuch district is rapidly emerging in the renewable energy sector, with 675 megawatts of solar capacity already operational. Additionally, projects with a capacity of over 1,952 megawatts are under construction.

Both leaders inaugurated and laid the foundation for industrial and infrastructure projects worth ₹1,553.98 crores, including a solar glass manufacturing unit with an investment exceeding ₹1,200 crores.

Furthermore, around ₹160 crores were allocated for 98 development works in Neemuch district.

Officials reported that a 550 megawatt solar park in Agar is also under construction.
