Caracas, June 30: India has accelerated its relief efforts in Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country. Under ‘Operation Amistad’, India is expanding its support by providing emergency medical facilities and essential health services to those affected.
The Indian Embassy in Caracas announced on social media platform ‘X’ on Tuesday, stating, “India has intensified its efforts to deliver relief to the earthquake-affected people in Venezuela under Operation Amistad. This initiative focuses on providing both treatment and relief to the victims.”
Previously, a team from the Indian Army deployed under Operation Amistad established a field hospital in Venezuela to ensure immediate medical assistance for those impacted by the earthquakes.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also posted on ‘X’, confirming, “Operation Amistad is ongoing in Venezuela. The Indian Army’s field hospital is actively caring for and treating the earthquake-affected individuals.”
On June 28, several powerful earthquakes caused significant destruction in Venezuela. In response, India swiftly decided to send humanitarian aid.
During this time, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar wrote on ‘X’, “India’s assistance has reached Venezuela. We are confident that the field hospital unit, relief supplies, medicines, and medical equipment will significantly bolster the ongoing earthquake relief efforts.”
Additionally, the Indian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire reported that two C-17 aircraft from the Indian Air Force have arrived in Venezuela via Abidjan. These aircraft carried 35 tons of relief supplies, a team for the Indian Army’s field hospital, and two Bhishma Cubes (part of India’s health initiative for cooperation, benefit, and friendship).
The Bhishma Cubes are indigenous, modular, and portable hospitals developed under India’s ‘Arogya Maitri’ project.
According to the embassy, the team consists of 41 personnel, including 9 medical officers. This team is fully equipped to provide emergency treatment, trauma management, life-saving surgeries, and other essential health services.
India’s initiative once again demonstrates its unwavering commitment to delivering humanitarian aid and disaster relief to countries in need during times of crisis.
