New Delhi, March 31: Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding, the Punjab Congress state president, has responded sharply to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks regarding Naxalism. He questioned Shah’s claims, stating that while Congress brought freedom to the country, what has the BJP contributed?
In the Lok Sabha, Amit Shah had alleged that Congress nurtured Naxalism, asserting that the current government is working to eliminate it.
In his rebuttal, Wadding emphasized that Congress has made significant sacrifices for the nation, particularly the Gandhi family, who have lost lives in the struggle for India’s independence. He criticized Shah’s comments as inappropriate, stating that the world knows the reality of Naxalism; mere statistics do not reflect the situation. He accused the BJP of being adept at delivering speeches but failing to address the actual conditions in the country.
Wadding remarked that while the Home Minister may claim efforts to eradicate Naxalism, blaming a previous government is unjust.
It is noteworthy that during the Lok Sabha session, Amit Shah claimed that Naxalism has nearly been eradicated from Bastar. He mentioned initiatives to establish schools and ration shops in every village of Bastar. Shah questioned why those advocating for Naxalism have not been seen since 2014, when the Narendra Modi government came to power, which provided homes, gas connections, clean drinking water, health insurance, and free grain to the poor. He attributed the lack of development in Bastar to the shadow of “red terror,” which he claims has now been lifted under the Modi administration, allowing for progress in the region.
