Congress Announces Candidates for West Bengal By-Elections

Kolkata, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Congress party has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming West Bengal assembly by-elections scheduled for 2026. A press release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) confirmed that national president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the nominations for two significant constituencies.

According to the list released by the AICC, Mohammad Abdullahil Kafi has been designated as the Congress candidate for the 70-Rejendranagar assembly seat, while Milan Pradhan will contest from the high-profile 210-Nandigram seat.

Rejendranagar, located in Murshidabad district, is considered a crucial constituency where minority voters play a decisive role. Abdullahil Kafi is recognized as an active local leader with a strong organizational presence. The Congress party aims to leverage a Muslim candidate to strengthen its social equations in this area.

Nandigram, on the other hand, is one of the most talked-about constituencies in the state. This is the same seat where a fierce contest took place between Mamata Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari in 2021. In this by-election, Congress has introduced Milan Pradhan to create a triangular contest. Pradhan is a youthful candidate who has significantly contributed to strengthening the Congress organization in East Midnapore.

The assembly by-elections in West Bengal are expected to see a direct fight between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. However, the Congress and the Left Front alliance are also striving to reclaim lost ground.

According to party sources, Congress plans to ramp up its campaign efforts soon. State Congress president Subhankar Sarkar congratulated both candidates and urged party workers to unite for the upcoming elections.
