EU Imposes Nearly 1,600 New Sanctions on Russias Military-Industrial Complex

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The European Union has taken a significant step to curb Russian aggression by approving nearly 1,600 new sanctions aimed at the country’s military-industrial complex. This announcement was made by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on October 12, 2026.

Borrell stated that this marks the most extensive set of sanctions imposed against Russia since the onset of the conflict. He emphasized the unity of Europe in addressing this critical issue through social media platform X.

More than half of the entities targeted by these sanctions are linked to the production and supply chain of ballistic missiles. The intention behind these measures is to make it increasingly difficult, slow, and costly for Russia to manufacture weapons used in its war against Ukraine.

This action follows a recent diesel agreement between the U.S. and Russia, raising concerns that Russian trade might increase, potentially bolstering its military capabilities against Ukraine.

Former President Donald Trump criticized Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, blaming him for global oil issues after agreeing to supply over 300,000 tons of diesel to Russia. Trump expressed frustration over the targeting of Russian diesel refineries and suggested that Ukraine might need new leadership to effectively address these challenges.

As the world grapples with a shortage of diesel refining capacity, the EU’s latest sanctions reflect a concerted effort to mitigate the impact of Russian military actions.
