Lucknow, August 6: Union Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow over the passing of BSP MLA Umashankar Singh, who represented the Rasra constituency in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh.
In a post on social media platform X, Rajnath Singh stated, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Umashankar Singh, a member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. He was known not only as an MLA but also as a compassionate social worker. He believed in working above party politics.”
He added, “Due to his humility and good conduct, he maintained positive relationships with all parties. My condolences go out to his grieving family and supporters during this difficult time. Om Shanti.”
Uttar Pradesh Minister Jaiveer Singh also expressed his condolences, stating that Singh was always at the forefront of social welfare initiatives. He remarked, “His passing is a great loss for us. He was dedicated to raising issues related to public welfare in the assembly. We have lost a person committed to the development of the state. I offer my humble tribute and pray for comfort for his family in this sorrowful time.”
Former MP Dhananjay Singh shared his grief as well, commenting, “It is very sad that he is no longer with us. He was quite popular in Ballia and took many steps for the people of the district. Our association lasted around 25 to 30 years. His commitment to his constituents was unwavering. The Bahujan Samaj Party has lost a significant leader. The departure of someone who worked for the betterment of society is an immense loss that words cannot express. While political ideologies may differ, in such times, there should be no bitterness among us.”
He further noted, “We critique policies and ideas, but Umashankar worked with the mindset of serving society. Whenever it came to social welfare, he was always at the forefront. His thoughts were always positive, which is why people from all walks of life are here today to remember him and pay their respects.”
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary also conveyed his condolences, stating, “I extend my sympathies to the grieving family. We stand with them in this time of sorrow. The loss of someone who lived a public life is a loss for all of us.”
