Cold Wave Returns in Madhya Pradesh Amid Heavy Snowfall in North India

Severe Cold and Rain Alert: The intense snowfall in the northern Himalayan regions has triggered icy winds, leading to a fresh spell of severe cold across most parts of Madhya Pradesh. As a result, Rajgarh recorded the lowest temperature of 3 degrees Celsius last night, accompanied by a cold wave. Other districts also witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures.

In 19 districts of the state, minimum temperatures fell below 10 degrees Celsius. Damoh, Naugaon, Rewa, and Tikamgarh experienced particularly cold days. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to change from Saturday night due to the influence of a western disturbance. Cloud cover may bring light rainfall in some areas starting Sunday, 1 February, with the rain likely to continue till Monday, 2 February.

Active Weather Systems

The Meteorological Department reports a cyclone in the upper air over northeastern Assam. Another western disturbance is active as a cyclone over northeastern Iran. Over northwestern India, western jet stream winds are blowing at about 200 km/h at an altitude of 12.6 km. From 2 February, a new western disturbance is expected to affect northwestern India.

Thunderstorms and Rain Forecast for Sunday and Monday

Weather expert Ajay Shukla stated that clouds will begin to gather from Saturday under the influence of the active western disturbance near Iran. This may provide some relief from the severe cold. Additionally, most cities in the state are likely to experience light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on Sunday and Monday.
