Mumbai, March 14: The ration distribution department in Mumbai has launched an operation to curb the black market of domestic and commercial gas cylinders. In a recent raid in the Worli area, authorities uncovered a significant stockpile of illegally stored gas cylinders.
The administration received a tip-off about illegal gas cylinder storage at ‘Suraj Vallabhadas Chawl’ on Ganpatrao Kadam Road near Worli Naka. Acting on this information, a team from the ration distribution department, along with police, swiftly conducted a raid and seized the illegally stored cylinders.
During the operation, six filled and 58 empty five-kilogram cylinders from HP Company were confiscated, along with additional filled cylinders from other gas companies.
Officials stated that these cylinders were intended for illegal refilling and sale on the black market. The seized cylinders have been handed over to the Worli police station. Local authorities emphasized that storing and selling cylinders illegally in residential areas poses a significant danger to public safety.
Strict action will be taken against those involved in gas cylinder black marketing. The administration has warned that teams will remain on high alert 24/7 to prevent such incidents.
The ongoing tensions in the Middle East have disrupted crude oil and petroleum supplies, affecting the availability of both commercial and domestic gas cylinders. Despite government assurances of adequate reserves, reports of gas cylinder black marketing are surfacing across the country, with many people lining up to obtain cylinders.
