Iran Claims No Damage to Kharg Island Oil Infrastructure Amid US Airstrike Reports

Tehran, March 14: Iran has asserted that its oil infrastructure on Kharg Island remains undamaged and fully operational. This statement follows claims by former US President Donald Trump on Truth Social, suggesting that an airstrike targeted Kharg, a critical lifeline for Iran. Trump stated that the military did not strike the oil infrastructure.

According to Iran’s state news agency Fars, the recent US attack did not harm any oil facilities on Kharg Island. Reports indicate that over 15 explosions were heard during the assault, with smoke rising from various locations. The US reportedly targeted military bases, the Joshon Sea base, airport control towers, and helicopter hangars.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the US military attacked all military installations on Kharg Island, one of Iran’s most vital assets. Approximately 90% of Iran’s crude oil is exported from this island, located about 55 kilometers off the southern coast of Bushehr in the Persian Gulf. Kharg Island is a coral island with deep waters, allowing even the largest oil tankers to anchor easily.

Crude oil is transported from several major oil fields to this island via pipelines and then shipped globally by tankers. Experts suggest that around 85 to 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports pass through Kharg Island, earning it the title of the country’s “economic lifeline.”
