Brasília, February 13: The China Media Group (CMG) hosted the Brazilian session of the “Spring Festival Gala Prelude” in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, on Wednesday.

During the event, CMG’s Director General, Shan Haixiong, delivered a video speech. Over 100 participants attended, including Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Zhu Qingqiao, and Brazil’s Health Minister, Alexandre Padilha, representing the government, cultural, and media sectors of both nations.

In his speech, Shan highlighted that the Spring Festival has been a cultural hallmark of Chinese civilization for thousands of years. It serves as a spiritual bond connecting Chinese communities worldwide. Today, nearly 20 countries and regions have declared the Spring Festival a public holiday, with about one-fifth of the global population celebrating it in various ways.

Shan also noted that the CMG’s “Spring Festival Gala,” recognized as the world’s largest annual cultural event by audience size, has been held for 43 consecutive years. It has become a “spiritual feast on New Year’s Eve,” offering audiences worldwide an opportunity to appreciate China’s rich traditional culture and gain insights into modern China.

This year marks the launch of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). Shan called on everyone to warmly welcome the hopeful season of spring.

Ambassador Zhu emphasized that CMG’s event brings the essence of Chinese Spring Festival culture to Brazil. As China’s most significant traditional festival, it is gaining global recognition. Despite the geographical distance, China and Brazil, the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, share a deep emotional connection.

Under the strategic guidance of both nations’ leaders, China-Brazil relations are at their peak. This year, the first “China-Brazil Cultural Year” will be held, further enhancing cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Health Minister Alexandre Padilha remarked on the steady development of China-Brazil relations. He noted that strategic cooperation in health knowledge exchange, public policy research, and medical innovation is deepening, laying a solid foundation for cultural and scientific exchanges.
