CISF Conducts Anti-Hijacking Mock Exercise in Coimbatore, Tests Preparedness

Coimbatore, June 23: In the event of an aircraft hijacking, how would the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) respond? How would they ensure the safety of passengers onboard? To address these critical questions, the CISF conducted an anti-hijacking mock exercise in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

The primary aim of this exercise was to assess the current efficiency of the CISF in handling such situations. A total of 189 personnel participated actively in this mock drill, including members from the CISF, airport operators, district administration, local police, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), fire services, and airline representatives.

During the mock drill, efforts were made to ensure that all actions adhered to standard operating procedures. In simpler terms, the entire framework for the exercise was established beforehand, detailing how each aspect would be managed.

The exercise aimed to foster coordination among all agencies involved. It is often observed that a lack of collaboration among various agencies can complicate situations. Therefore, this drill focused on how agencies could work together intelligently to normalize a crisis if it arises in the near future. This aspect was given special attention, making the exercise particularly significant.

Currently, the aviation sector faces numerous challenges, making such mock drills essential. They not only test the skills of security personnel and associated agencies but also provide an opportunity for them to enhance their capabilities.

It is worth noting that the CISF has conducted several similar mock drills in the past. Typically, these drills are aimed at disaster response, but this particular exercise was primarily focused on addressing challenges within the aviation sector.
