Mumbai, May 4: In the recent Puducherry Assembly elections, several seats showcased intriguing contests. According to the latest results, significant victories were recorded in the Thattanchavadi, Embalam, and Mannadipet constituencies.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy achieved a remarkable win in the Thattanchavadi Assembly seat (Number 9). The All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) candidate secured 10,024 votes, while his opponent E. Vinayagam from the Neyam Makkal Kazhagam garnered 5,583 votes. Rangasamy won by a margin of 4,441 votes.
Rangasamy has previously served as the Chief Minister of Puducherry four times (2001-2006, 2006-2008, 2011-2016, and from 2021 to the present).
In the Embalam Assembly seat (Number 21), AINRC’s E. Mohandoss also emerged victorious, receiving 16,017 votes compared to Congress candidate M. Kandasamy’s 11,956 votes. Mohandoss won this contest by a margin of 4,061 votes.
The Mannadipet Assembly seat (Number 1) saw a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s A. Namasivayam, who received 15,918 votes. Congress’s T.P.R. Selvam secured 9,808 votes, resulting in a victory margin of 6,110 votes for the BJP candidate.
It is noteworthy that a total of 30 Assembly seats were contested in Puducherry, with voting taking place in a single phase on April 9.
To form a government, any party or coalition needs to secure a minimum of 16 seats. Additionally, three seats are nominated by the Lieutenant Governor, which can play a crucial role in government formation.
So far, trends indicate that AINRC is leading in five seats, while its ally, the BJP, is ahead in one seat. Independent candidates are leading in three seats.
