Mumbai, May 23: In a significant achievement for anti-Naxal operations, security forces in Chhattisgarh have successfully thwarted a Maoist plot. A pressure cooker IED weighing approximately 5 kilograms was discovered in the dense forests of Hidpal village, located in the Barsur police station area of Dantewada district. The explosive was safely neutralized, preventing a potential disaster.
According to police officials, the Maoists had concealed this IED in the forest with the intent to target security personnel and instill fear in the local population. Had the explosive detonated, it could have endangered the lives of both security forces and local villagers.
Acting on intelligence received on Saturday, a joint operation was launched by the district police, the ‘Young Platoon,’ and the bomb disposal team from the 195th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force. The search operation commenced around 5 AM under the guidance of Second-in-Command Vikrant Verma and Assistant Commandant Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
The security team advanced cautiously through the mountainous and densely wooded area, specifically searching for locations where Naxalite presence and hidden explosives were suspected.
At approximately 8:20 AM, during the search operation, the personnel spotted a suspicious object in the forest. Sensing the potential danger, they immediately cordoned off the area and summoned the bomb disposal squad. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the object was a pressure cooker IED.
Following this, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) employed technical procedures to safely neutralize the explosive on-site. No untoward incidents occurred during this operation.
After the IED was destroyed, security forces conducted an extensive search in the surrounding sensitive areas to confirm the absence of any additional explosives. There have been no reports of injuries or casualties during this operation.
