Chaos Erupts in Lok Sabha Over LPG Crisis and Suspension of Eight MPs

New Delhi, March 13: The Lok Sabha witnessed significant turmoil on Friday due to the LPG crisis and the suspension of eight Members of Parliament (MPs). Despite repeated requests from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, opposition members continued their uproar, prompting the Speaker to suspend the proceedings until noon.

When the session commenced at 11 AM, Congress MPs gathered near the well of the house, demanding a discussion on the LPG crisis. They also protested against the suspension of the eight MPs.

Speaker Om Birla attempted to calm the opposition members, stating, “I have previously urged and am reiterating that question hour is the most crucial time for the house. Today, eight members from the opposition have questions listed. During question hour, national issues and regional problems are raised, ensuring government accountability. Therefore, I request that everyone be given a chance to speak during this time.”

He remarked on the opposition’s behavior, saying, “They claim they want to express their views and be allowed to speak in the house, yet when given the opportunity, they choose not to and instead create a deadlock. This is not parliamentary decorum.” The Speaker encouraged opposition members to raise their issues after question hour, but the uproar persisted.

Commenting sternly on the suspension of the eight members, Speaker Om Birla stated, “If you climb on the tables inside the house, such actions (suspensions) will follow. I urge everyone to maintain the sanctity of the house, both inside and outside the Parliament. The conduct and behavior of opposition members are undermining the dignity of the house.”

The Speaker reiterated that opposition members were obstructing question hour and causing continuous disruptions. Following this, he suspended the proceedings until noon.
