New Delhi, August 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended a declared criminal involved in a job fraud case dating back to 2009. The accused, Jitendra Pathak, allegedly posed as an employee of the Lok Sabha Secretariat and extorted ₹50,000 from a job seeker.
In a statement, the CBI revealed that Pathak was arrested on Wednesday in Ludhiana, Punjab. He was declared a ‘declared criminal’ by the trial court in 2016. This arrest comes nearly seven years after the First Information Report (FIR) was filed in the case.
The CBI registered the case against Pathak and others on July 13, 2009, accusing them of defrauding a private individual under the pretense of securing a job in Parliament for ₹50,000.
After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Pathak and another co-accused. Despite the chargesheet being submitted in December 2009, Pathak never appeared in court.
The central investigative agency stated, “Subsequent to this, extensive efforts were made to locate the accused during the trial, but he remained elusive.”
After fulfilling all necessary legal formalities, the trial court declared Pathak a ‘declared criminal’ on September 28, 2016. The CBI later discovered that Pathak was hiding in Ludhiana through field verification.
Using technical analysis, the CBI executed a precise operation and successfully arrested the declared criminal in Ludhiana on Wednesday.
In a separate case, the CBI also arrested an Assistant Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in Panipat, Haryana, for alleged bribery. The accused reportedly demanded ₹30,000 from a complainant to resolve issues related to an Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) authorization file.
The CBI set a trap and caught the government employee red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
