Mumbai, March 27: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a key figure in an international cyber slavery and human trafficking network. The accused, Sunil Nellathu Ramakrishnan, also known as ‘Krish’, is a resident of Mumbai. He was apprehended for allegedly trafficking Indian youth to cyber scam centers in Myanmar.
Investigations revealed that this organized international gang lured unsuspecting Indian citizens with promises of attractive job offers in Thailand. Victims were first transported from Delhi to Bangkok and then secretly sent to cyber scam centers located in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region, particularly in KK Park. There, they were coerced into participating in cyber fraud activities.
At these centers, victims faced physical and mental torture to engage in ‘digital kidnapping’ scams, romance fraud, and cryptocurrency investment scams. They were held illegally, faced strict restrictions on their movement, and were subjected to constant threats.
In 2025, several Indian victims managed to escape from these scam centers and returned to India via Thailand. The CBI recorded detailed statements from these victims, which provided insights into the trafficking network’s operations. Based on intelligence, the CBI conducted an extensive investigation and identified Sunil, alias ‘Krish’, as a principal facilitator and leader of this network.
After monitoring his activities, the CBI arrested him upon his return to Mumbai. A search of his residence yielded significant digital evidence linked to trafficking operations in Myanmar and Cambodia.
A CBI official stated that foreign nationals are also involved in this international trafficking network. The agency is now in the process of identifying and apprehending other suspects. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network.
The CBI has made it clear that it is committed to dismantling cybercrime and human trafficking syndicates to protect Indian citizens from such organized exploitation. This case is considered serious, as thousands of Indian youths remain trapped in Myanmar’s cyber scam centers. The CBI’s success is viewed as a significant action against human trafficking on an international scale.
