Howrah, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant arrests in a bribery case involving transactions worth ₹4 lakh at a hotel in Howrah, West Bengal. On Tuesday, the agency apprehended four individuals, including two government employees from the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) based in Lucknow.
Among those arrested are Ashutosh Kumar, the Deputy Director of RDSO, and Deepak Kumar, a Senior Section Engineer at the same organization. Additionally, the CBI identified two representatives from a private company, Utkarsh India Limited, as part of the operation. They were named as Shashank Agarwal and Swaroop Kumar Rai.
According to an official statement, the accused are alleged to have colluded to issue favorable plant and machinery inspection reports in exchange for illegal benefits from the Kolkata-based company. The CBI conducted a sting operation, catching the accused red-handed as they received the bribe at the hotel.
In addition to the ₹4 lakh bribe, the CBI also seized ₹4.73 lakh in cash during the operation. Following the arrests, the agency searched multiple locations in Kolkata, Lucknow, and Bihar, recovering incriminating documents and digital evidence.
The arrested individuals are set to be presented before a special court for custody. In a separate incident, the CBI arrested Chandrashekhar Gupta, the Chief Health Inspector of the Bokaro division of South Eastern Railway, for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹25,000 to approve medical leave. Gupta was caught accepting ₹10,000 from a complainant during a sting operation.
The CBI has stated that Gupta will also be brought before a special court in Dhanbad.
