Ghaziabad, July 29: The month of Shravan begins on July 30, marking the start of the Kanwar Yatra. As in previous years, millions of devotees will travel from Haridwar and other sacred sites, carrying holy water to their destinations. This pilgrimage significantly impacts traffic in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and surrounding areas.
In response to this situation, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has made a crucial decision to enhance passenger convenience on the Delhi–Meerut Nammo Bharat Corridor.
NCRTC has announced that from July 30 to August 14, an additional 52 train trips will be operated daily on the Nammo Bharat Corridor. With these new services, trains will now be available every 8 minutes instead of the previous 10-minute intervals. This service will run along the entire corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram station.
Currently, around 100,000 passengers travel daily on the Delhi–Meerut Nammo Bharat Corridor. During the Kanwar Yatra, heavy crowds and traffic restrictions are expected to increase this number significantly. To ensure timely and smooth travel for passengers, these additional train services are being introduced. If necessary, the frequency of train operations may be further increased based on passenger demand.
It is important to note that during the Kanwar Yatra, traffic police implement one-way traffic on several major routes or completely close some roads to ensure the safety and smooth movement of devotees. As a result, those traveling by private vehicles and buses often face long jams, delays, and inconvenience. In this context, the Nammo Bharat train emerges as the most convenient option for regular commuters due to its speed, punctuality, and reliable service.
This initiative will greatly benefit daily commuters, students, traders, and other regular travelers, allowing them to reach their destinations on time while avoiding road congestion. Additionally, the Meerut Metro service is also operational between Meerut South and Modipuram, making travel within Meerut city even easier.
NCRTC has clarified that parking facilities at some stations may be temporarily affected due to road closures during the Kanwar Yatra. Passengers will be informed in advance about any such situation to avoid inconvenience.
Prioritizing safety and passenger convenience, NCRTC is coordinating with CISF in Delhi and UPSSF in Uttar Pradesh to ensure safe, smooth, and uninterrupted rail services on the Nammo Bharat Corridor during the Kanwar Yatra.
