Washington, July 29: The US military has reported successfully intercepting several ballistic missiles launched from Iran. This incident was described as an “unexpected attack” on American forces stationed in the Middle East.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on X, “At 5:45 PM (ET), forces from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran. This was an attempt to carry out a sudden attack on US troops in the region.”
They confirmed, “All of Iran’s missiles were successfully intercepted. The US military remains vigilant and fully prepared.”
According to a US official cited by CNN, Iran fired up to four ballistic missiles. Tehran has not yet responded to these claims.
Earlier on Tuesday, CENTCOM reported that the US military redirected 18 commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, rendered two inactive, and seized two others to enforce a naval blockade on all Iranian ports.
In a separate post, CENTCOM noted, “Over 20 US Navy warships are currently operating in support of military operations in the Middle East, strictly enforcing America’s ‘Steel Wall’ blockade against Iran. As of July 28, CENTCOM has redirected 18 commercial vessels, rendered two inactive, and seized two to ensure compliance with regulations.”
On July 26, Central Command declared that the naval blockade against Iran was fully enforced. By July 25, they had redirected 12 commercial vessels attempting to breach the blockade, rendered two non-compliant vessels inactive, and seized two to ensure adherence to regulations.
These missile attacks from Iran coincided with a meeting between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. This was their first face-to-face meeting since both countries initiated attacks on Iran on February 28.
President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he decided to halt US attacks on Iran to give negotiations another chance, while warning that he could order further strikes if talks fail.
