Haridwar, July 29: On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, thousands of devotees gathered at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna emphasized the significance of the guru-disciple tradition and paid homage to their mentors, blessing their followers. The event promoted yoga, Indian culture, spiritual values, and eternal traditions.
Speaking to the media, Baba Ramdev stated that Guru Purnima is not just a festival but a time to honor the respect, dedication, and knowledge associated with gurus. He noted that on this day, thousands are being initiated into the guru tradition, with people from all walks of life participating.
He highlighted that India’s sage tradition has always been about knowledge, values, and human welfare. Referring to the sacred thread ceremony, he mentioned it as a symbol of sage culture and eternal tradition. Today, individuals from various backgrounds are embracing this rite and studying the Vedas and Indian knowledge systems.
Baba Ramdev asserted that the right to acquire knowledge is accessible to everyone in Indian culture. Women are also studying the Vedas and donning the sacred thread. He emphasized that studying Indian scriptures, including the Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda, serves as a means for the new generation to connect with their culture and traditions.
He envisioned a new India free from discrimination, where everyone progresses equally. He stated that all humans are descendants of a single supreme being, and society should advance with unity, integrity, and mutual cooperation.
Despite differing religions and beliefs, Baba Ramdev noted that all people share common ancestors. He urged everyone to work together for national unity and humanity. He encouraged individuals to adopt the values and traditions of their ancestors and contribute to nation-building.
He also mentioned the sacred thread and initiation ceremonies for students at Patanjali University, Acharyakulam, and Patanjali Civil Services Academy. He expressed confidence that these students would provide better administrative, social, economic, and political leadership in the future. He believes the youth will play a crucial role in making India healthy, prosperous, cultured, and powerful.
During the event, Baba Ramdev addressed the recent protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, stating that while dissent is a right in democracy, it should be expressed constitutionally and respectfully. He emphasized that disrespectful language is not part of Indian culture, and people should honor their elders, parents, and gurus.
He remarked, “The country will not be run from the streets; it will be run from Parliament. Decisions about who the education minister will be cannot be made on the streets but through the democratic process involving the Prime Minister and Parliament.”
He also commented on slogans raised during protests, such as “Freedom from Brahminism” and “Freedom from RSS,” asserting that if someone is born into a Brahmin family and has learned nationalism from the RSS, there should be no objection.
Baba Ramdev concluded by stating that the Constitution grants equal rights to every citizen. The rights afforded to Dalits, the oppressed, and marginalized communities are also applicable to all, including Brahmins. Therefore, using derogatory language against any caste or community is unconstitutional and undemocratic.
