Mumbai, July 29: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the swift completion of electrical connections for a state-of-the-art 900-bed district general hospital in Thane. This initiative aims to provide world-class medical facilities to the residents of Thane and the surrounding Palghar districts. The directive was issued during a review meeting held at the ministry on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Shinde reviewed the current status and progress of the Thane Civil Hospital project in detail. Present were Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, Ministers Dadaji Bhuse, Gulabrao Patil, Uday Samant, Shambhuraj Desai, Sanjay Shirsat, Sanjay Rathod, Pratap Sarnaik, along with Deputy Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary Aseem Gupta, Principal Secretary Naveen Sona, Health Department Secretary E. Ravindran, District Collector Shrikrishna Panchal, and Thane Municipal Corporation’s Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi, as well as District Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar.
Shinde instructed senior officials from the relevant departments to expedite the work at every phase of the project, emphasizing that delays at the administrative level would not be tolerated.
The issue of the hospital’s inability to commence operations due to incomplete electrical connections was raised. Shinde mandated that all necessary electrical work for the hospital be completed within the stipulated time frame. Additionally, he called for regular and high-quality cleaning of the hospital building, the immediate procurement of essential modern medical equipment, and the expedited filling of 1,078 new positions recently approved by the government.
This ambitious 900-bed complex will house a 500-bed main district hospital, a 200-bed women’s and children’s hospital, and a 200-bed referral service hospital, all under one roof. Super-specialty departments will be available for critical illnesses such as cardiology, neurology, nephrology, and oncology. Furthermore, a dedicated helipad has been designed on the hospital’s roof for emergency and critical patient transport via air ambulance. The facility will also feature 16 modern surgical theaters.
Shinde expressed confidence that once the project is completed, millions of residents in Thane and Palghar districts will no longer need to seek medical treatment elsewhere. Instead, they will have access to modern and comprehensive medical care free of charge within their own district.
