
Tehri, June 7: A bus overturned on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway in Tehri, Uttarakhand, injuring eight people. Officials reported that the injured were promptly taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The incident occurred near Kaudiyala in Tehri on Sunday morning. According to District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt, the local bus was en route to Rishikesh, carrying a total of 39 passengers. While eight individuals sustained minor injuries, the remaining passengers were unharmed.
Emergency teams, including revenue officials, police, and SDRF, along with the 108 ambulance service, quickly arrived at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by brake failure.
Earlier that day, a Mahindra XUV 700 traveling towards Kedarnath Dham lost control and plunged approximately 50 meters down a slope near the Tilwara petrol pump in Rudraprayag. A joint team of police, SDRF, and DDRF acted swiftly to rescue the five passengers trapped inside the vehicle. Two women were seriously injured, while three others suffered minor injuries.
The vehicle (UP-16 DK 0856) was carrying pilgrims from West Bengal on their way to Kedarnath Dham. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the car to veer off the road. Although chaos ensued at the scene, the prompt response of the rescue teams ensured that all passengers were safely evacuated.
The injured passengers have been identified as Prince Singh, Sabina Singh, Sujon Mukherjee, Rija Mukherjee, and the driver Pradeep Kumar. Two female passengers sustained serious injuries, while the other three suffered minor ones. All injured individuals were taken to the district hospital in Rudraprayag for ongoing treatment.
According to police officials, timely rescue operations helped prevent a larger tragedy. An investigation into the causes of the accident is underway, with initial assessments pointing to vehicle loss of control as a likely factor.
