
Rudraprayag, June 7: A significant road accident was narrowly avoided early Sunday morning in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand. A Mahindra XUV 700, en route to Kedarnath Dham, lost control and plunged approximately 50 meters down the road, landing in the river near Tilwara petrol pump.
A joint team from the police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) acted swiftly to rescue the five passengers aboard the vehicle. While two women sustained serious injuries, three others suffered minor injuries.
According to reports, local authorities were alerted about the accident at 5 AM on Sunday. In response, the Rudraprayag police, SDRF, DDRF, and 108 ambulance service teams promptly rushed to the scene. The rescue teams conducted a special operation to reach the vehicle that had fallen by the riverbank.
The vehicle, registered as UP-16 DK 0856, was carrying pilgrims from West Bengal to Kedarnath Dham. The driver lost control, causing the car to veer off the road. Although chaos ensued at the scene, the quick response of the rescue teams ensured that all passengers were safely evacuated.
The injured passengers have been identified as Prince Singh, Sabhima Singh, Sujon Mukherjee, Rija Mukherjee, and the driver, Pradeep Kumar. Two female passengers suffered serious injuries, while the other three sustained minor injuries. All injured individuals were transported to the District Hospital in Rudraprayag for ongoing treatment after receiving initial care.
Police officials stated that prompt initiation of rescue operations prevented a potential loss of life. An investigation into the causes of the accident is underway, with initial assessments attributing the incident to the vehicle’s loss of control.
During the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution and drive at safe speeds, especially given the increasing traffic on hilly roads. The successful rescue of all passengers has brought a sense of relief to the community.
