Mumbai, February 1 – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27 on Sunday. Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have described the budget as dedicated to the common people of the country. In this context, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam shared his views.
Speaking to the media, Sanjay Nirupam said, “The new budget of Prime Minister Modi’s government echoes three words: development, public welfare, and national security.”
He added, “Regarding development, the budget proposes a capital expenditure of over ₹12 lakh crore, indicating an increase in capital spending. This will accelerate the pace of growth in the country. When the government increases expenditure, liquidity in the market rises. This benefits everyone—from the poor, vulnerable, and labourers to large industrialists and officials—by putting money into their hands. As liquidity increases rapidly across India, all sections will benefit without anyone’s pocket becoming lighter.”
Nirupam further said, “The budget announces extensive welfare schemes for the youth, women, elderly, farmers, labourers, and small entrepreneurs. Funds have been allocated for these schemes, making the budget appear strongly focused on public welfare. Women will benefit, youth will get new opportunities, and the elderly will feel secure.”
He also highlighted agricultural and urban development, stating, “Numerous good initiatives have been introduced to improve and develop the agriculture sector. A fund of ₹10,000 crore has been allocated for the welfare and growth of small and medium entrepreneurs. Additionally, ₹5,000 crore will be spent on the welfare of cities over coming years, showing the government’s strong focus on urbanisation.”
On defence, Nirupam noted, “With hostile neighbours eyeing India’s borders, it is essential to increase the defence budget to ensure the country’s security. This year, the defence budget has been set at around ₹7 lakh crore. Through this budget, we see the realisation of Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India.”
