Kolkata, August 13: The Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier organized a 15-kilometer bicycle rally in Kolkata on Wednesday to celebrate International Youth Day.
Officials reported that the rally commenced from the BSF South Bengal Frontier headquarters in Rajarhat. Its aim was to inspire youth to maintain physical fitness, raise environmental awareness, and become responsible citizens.
Inspector General Daljeet Singh flagged off the participants.
An official stated, “BSF personnel from all ranks participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their collective spirit and commitment to this initiative. The rally traversed through modern areas of Kolkata, taking a scenic route from the headquarters to the famous Biswa Bangla Gate in Rajarhat New Town and back.”
Cyclists delivered messages along the route, encouraging people, especially the youth, to stay physically fit, adopt a healthy lifestyle, protect the environment, and contribute positively to society.
Local residents gathered at various points to cheer on the cyclists, creating an atmosphere of excitement and community involvement. The enthusiastic response from citizens served as an additional source of motivation for those securing the India-Bangladesh border.
The BSF South Bengal Frontier oversees approximately 913 kilometers of the India-Bangladesh border. Its jurisdiction extends from the estuary point in Sundarbans to the northern Malda district.
The frontier’s personnel face numerous challenges, including dealing with infiltration, smuggling, human trafficking, and other cross-border crimes. The terrain also poses significant obstacles, with some border areas being riverine and lacking fencing, while others are densely populated, with villages situated right along the international boundary.
To enhance engagement with border populations, the BSF conducts welfare programs such as health camps, sports events, and motivational workshops. They also train youth for recruitment examinations in the BSF and other central armed police forces. Additionally, the BSF assists villagers during medical emergencies and natural disasters.
