Firozpur, March 22: The Border Security Force (BSF) hosted a marathon on Sunday to commemorate Shaheed Diwas, celebrate 60 years of the BSF, and promote a drug-free India under the Fit India initiative.
BSF’s DIG Vijay Kumar Rana stated that the marathon was organized in honor of Shaheed Diwas, which is observed on March 23. The event featured a 21-kilometer half marathon, a 10-kilometer race, and a fun run of three kilometers.
Shaheed Diwas is observed annually to remember the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, who were executed by the British government on this day in 1931 at Lahore Jail. The BSF chose to hold the marathon a day before this significant day.
Recently, a similar marathon took place in Bihar, where 10,000 participants gathered at Gandhi Maidan to rally against drug abuse. Ajay Yadav, Secretary of the Prohibition, Excise, and Registration Department, mentioned that the Bihar marathon included races of 42 kilometers, 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers. Youth icon P.V. Sindhu was invited to motivate participants.
With around 57% of Bihar’s population under the age of 25, the marathon aimed to channel the energy of youth towards a drug-free Bihar.
Ajay Yadav highlighted that this initiative has been ongoing for several years, primarily engaging young participants. To connect with the community, youth icons are invited to inspire positive change. The department and government are committed to supporting youth in a constructive direction.
