Mukerian, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : In Mukerian, on September 27, Shagun Parihar, a young BJP legislator from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar, criticized the Punjab government for its handling of drug-related issues. Speaking at a rally on the eighth day of the BJP’s “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra,” she expressed skepticism about the government’s commitment to combat substance abuse, especially when Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been seen consuming alcohol in the assembly.
Parihar accused Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, of betraying the people of Punjab. She claimed that drug traffickers have been given free rein under Mann’s administration. “The situation in Punjab has deteriorated to the point where there is no guarantee that someone going to bed at night will wake up safe in the morning, or that a person leaving their home will return safely,” she stated.
Reflecting on her own family’s tragic history, Parihar recalled the days when terrorists roamed freely in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting those who spoke out against them. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for revoking Article 370, which she believes has led to positive changes and opportunities for youth in Kashmir.
Parihar emphasized the need for similar change in Punjab, urging citizens to support Modi and Shah. During the rally, attendees also listened to Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” program.
Senior BJP leader Vijay Sampla alleged that drugs are being sold door-to-door in Punjab, even with home delivery options. He claimed that local sarpanches who speak out against this drug trade have been found dead, suggesting a dangerous environment for those opposing the status quo.
Former state BJP president Ashwini Sharma highlighted that the purpose of their campaign is to save Punjab’s youth and raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Mukerian MLA Jangi Lal Mahajan assured the crowd that once the BJP is in power, drug traffickers will face imprisonment, stating they have only four months left before significant changes are implemented.
