New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Siddharth Yadav, the national media co-convener of the BJP, recently targeted opposition parties, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during a press conference in New Delhi. He criticized the ongoing questioning of constitutional institutions, labeling it a harmful act against the nation that undermines democracy. Yadav urged the Congress party to apologize for its actions.
He recounted how, prior to the West Bengal assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi accused Mamata Banerjee of paving the way for the BJP’s entry into the state. However, after the elections, Gandhi reversed his stance, attributing the situation to the Election Commission and the State Information Report (SIR). Yadav claimed that there is a persistent false narrative being propagated by Gandhi, aimed at eroding public trust in the electoral process and weakening democracy.
Yadav highlighted the contradictory stance of Congress leaders in various states regarding the integrity of voter lists. He noted that in Andhra Pradesh, a Congress leader had previously called for the removal of 50 lakh duplicate voters. Following the SIR process in 2026, 44.28 lakh names were indeed removed. Similarly, in Telangana, demands were made to eliminate 70 lakh erroneous names, with 73.39 lakh names ultimately removed.
According to Yadav, once the Election Commission ensured the accuracy of voter lists post-SIR, Congress began to claim that the removals indicated electoral fraud. He described this pattern as a clear example of Congress’s opportunistic politics.
In Rajasthan, Congress alleged that 42 lakh names were duplicates and should be removed. The SIR process resulted in the removal of approximately 41.85 lakh names. In Kerala, Congress even established a website to highlight 4.34 lakh duplicate names, but when the SIR found 8.57 lakh duplicates, they praised the process after winning.
Yadav pointed out that Congress previously stated that failing to remove duplicate names would betray democracy. Now, he questioned their current narrative as names are being removed. He referenced videos where illegal immigrants admitted to voting before the SIR.
He recalled that on August 24, 2013, 13.58 lakh votes were removed in Delhi, and despite being in opposition, the BJP did not claim it was electoral theft. Similarly, on August 9, 2013, 76 lakh suspect voters were identified in Bihar without any objections from the opposition.
Yadav emphasized that during Congress’s time in power, the SIR process was conducted ten times without any challenges to its legitimacy. He called on opposition leaders to recognize their responsibilities and refrain from undermining democratic institutions. He condemned their actions as unjust to the nation.
