Kohima, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : In Kohima, Governor Nand Kishor Yadav emphasized the importance of preserving Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage. He highlighted that folk songs, dances, and traditional art forms reflect the state’s identity, history, and collective legacy. Speaking at the State Level Youth Festival 2026 held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, he urged the youth to learn about their heritage, respect others’ traditions, and present traditional arts and culture in innovative and meaningful ways.
The governor appealed to the young attendees to acquire practical skills, embrace entrepreneurship, and contribute to building a self-reliant Nagaland. He noted that the youth festival serves not only as a platform for competition but also as an opportunity for learning, dialogue, creativity, and personal growth.
Encouraging friendship and the exchange of ideas among participants from various districts, Yadav referenced the festival’s theme, “Youth, Skills, and Self-Reliant Nagaland.” He stressed that talent must be complemented by knowledge, practical skills, discipline, and a commitment to lifelong learning. The governor inspired youth to seek opportunities in digital technology, entrepreneurship, agriculture, tourism, handicrafts, creative industries, and other emerging fields.
He pointed out that government jobs alone cannot fulfill every young person’s aspirations. Therefore, he urged them to consider various options for livelihood and economic independence. With skills, determination, dedication, and a spirit of entrepreneurship, young people can play a vital role in shaping a self-reliant Nagaland.
Yadav praised the department’s “Skill-Based Economic Sustainability Initiative for I.G. Academy Students” and expressed admiration for the handmade products and creative works showcased by students. He noted that sports help develop discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership skills, encouraging athletes to cultivate additional skills beyond their sport.
Participants in competitions such as declamation, poetry writing, and painting received advice from the governor to read extensively, remain curious, develop critical thinking, and use technology responsibly. He stressed the importance of distinguishing between reliable information and misinformation, urging them to be aware, responsible, and active citizens.
Referencing the vision for “Developed India 2047,” Governor Yadav underscored the central role of youth in shaping the nation’s future. He identified Nagaland’s talented youth, rich cultural traditions, natural beauty, and strong community ties as key strengths. The governor also discussed the potential in tourism, agriculture, entrepreneurship, sports, and creative industries.
He encouraged the youth to participate in the festival with enthusiasm, integrity, and confidence while respecting fellow participants. Yadav remarked that while awards may represent a moment of achievement, the knowledge, discipline, and experiences gained during competition are invaluable throughout life.
The governor called on young people to remain curious, learn new skills, and develop a strong work ethic while respecting teachers, mentors, parents, and elders.
