BJPs Satish Poonia Promises Drug-Free Punjab During Statewide Campaign

Bhatinda, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Satish Poonia, the BJP’s in-charge for Punjab, visited Bhatinda on Monday as part of the party’s “Drug-Free Punjab” initiative. He emphasized the BJP’s dedication to completely eliminating drug abuse in the state.

Speaking to the media, Poonia stated, “The BJP has launched four campaigns aimed at making Punjab drug-free. This journey spans approximately 13 days, beginning on September 18 and concluding on September 30.”

He detailed that one campaign commenced from Sujanpur in Pathankot, while another started in Fazilka. Today, a third campaign kicked off from the revered site of Sri Damdama Sahib. All four campaigns will culminate in Jalandhar on September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend the closing event.

Poonia reiterated the BJP’s commitment to a drug-free Punjab, responding to skepticism about the feasibility of this goal. “If our party can abrogate Article 370 and tackle Naxalism, we can surely eradicate drug abuse as well,” he asserted. He noted that Amit Shah recently tweeted about needing two years to achieve this objective, with a target deadline set for 2029.

He reflected on Punjab’s historical significance, stating, “Punjab was once a leader in the fields of sports and military service. Our youth were renowned worldwide. Today, that vitality is threatened by substance abuse.” He described the ongoing campaign as more than just a political endeavor; it is a commitment to combat drug addiction, drawing strength from religious sites along the way.

Regarding opposition to the campaign, Poonia remarked, “In a democracy, both support and dissent are present. However, I believe opposition should be grounded in logic. The constitution does not permit any form of retaliation or violation of decorum. Everyone has the right to express their views, but ultimately, the decision lies with the voters.”

Poonia also condemned recent attacks on BJP leaders in Punjab, asserting that such actions are unacceptable. “Governments come and go, but the public is observant. We are initiating positive measures without seeking votes. Our message is clear: we intend to eliminate drugs from the state once we are in power. Any opposition to this is indicative of support for drug abuse.”
