BJP Responds to Call for India-Pakistan Dialogue: Terrorism Must Cease First

New Delhi, July 2: A group of over 100 prominent citizens from India and Pakistan has urged Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shahbaz Sharif to resume dialogue and restore normal relations. In response, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have expressed strong opposition to this appeal.

BJP officials assert that India has never been against peace talks. However, they emphasize that discussions can only proceed if Pakistan completely halts cross-border terrorism.

Rajya Sabha member Dinesh Sharma stated, “When has India said it does not want peace? Pakistan talks about peace while simultaneously promoting infiltration, cross-border firing, and terrorist activities. India has never denied dialogue; it has only stated that meaningful discussions can occur once Pakistan ceases sponsoring terrorism.”

He added, “Those who made this appeal should also convey this message in Pakistan. India has never claimed it does not want good relations with any neighbor. Our only condition is that cross-border terrorism and infiltration must stop. Only then will India be ready to maintain good relations.”

BJP national spokesperson Guru Prakash remarked, “The government is sensitive and the Ministry of External Affairs continuously monitors all issues. People have the right to express their opinions, but the government will proceed without compromising the nation’s honor, dignity, and sovereignty.”

Meanwhile, Bihar BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi questioned the individuals who signed the letter. He stated, “Who are these 117 people who wrote this letter? Look into them. It includes Farooq Abdullah, leaders from RJD, and others who hold views similar to Pakistan regarding the Kashmir issue or speak in favor of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In a way, these individuals are raising the flag for Pakistan.”

Sarawagi also noted that Prime Minister Modi and Defense Minister have already clarified that ‘Operation Sindoor’ has not ended; it has only been temporarily suspended.

He emphasized, “Given that Pakistan continues to promote terrorist activities, India must proceed with utmost vigilance.”

BJP leader Narayan Datt Tripathi remarked, “People have their own opinions and channels. India has seen many such initiatives before. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also initiated dialogue with Pakistan and visited several times. Starting a bus service was not a bad idea. Engaging in talks with Pakistan should happen, but who can trust that they will uphold their end? Such discussions have occurred multiple times before.”

Bihar government minister Dilip Jaiswal stated, “India is often referred to as a messenger of peace. It is this role that fuels our vision of becoming a global leader. The world must understand that peace is the only way forward, not war. If any peace talks arise, India will be at the forefront. Our goal is to spread the message of peace and harmony worldwide.”

The appeal from over 100 prominent citizens for both countries’ prime ministers to restore dialogue has intensified political rhetoric in India.
