BJP Protests in Srinagar, Accuses NC of Promoting Anti-National Agenda

Srinagar, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday against the Jammu and Kashmir government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The party accused the ruling National Conference (NC) of attempting to push a “nation-opposing” agenda in the assembly.

BJP leader Altaf Thakur led the demonstration, during which protesters burned an effigy of CM Abdullah. Speaking to reporters, Thakur claimed that the NC was misleading the public by discussing autonomy and reverting to the pre-1953 status, diverting attention from pressing issues. He described such rhetoric as akin to betrayal of the nation.

Thakur further alleged that the NC was promoting Pakistan’s agenda by introducing proposals related to Article 370 and 35A, as well as issues of autonomy and self-governance. “No force in the world can grant autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir. When Omar Abdullah was a minister in the Vajpayee government, the autonomy proposal was thrown into the dustbin, and the same should happen with the current proposals,” he stated.

He criticized the NC government for failing to fulfill its electoral promises, affecting daily wage workers and National Health Mission (NHM) employees among others. “It’s not just that Omar Abdullah has not kept any promise so far; the truth is that he has no intention of fulfilling them in the future. The government in Jammu and Kashmir has failed and should be dismissed, with the imposition of Governor’s rule,” he added.

Thakur also called for an FIR against the NC for allegedly promoting the agenda of the ISI in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that such actions should not be tolerated. The BJP has been vocally opposing a recent resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir assembly that links the restoration of statehood with previous demands for autonomy and special status.
