Delhi LG T.S. Sandhu Inaugurates DDA Sports Complex in Rohini, Announces Hockey Cup

Rohini, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, T.S. Sandhu, inaugurated a new sports complex developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Thursday in Rohini. The event took place in Sector 33 and was aimed at enhancing sports facilities for residents in Rohini and surrounding areas.

During the inauguration, Sandhu announced the LG Cup for Hockey, scheduled from October 9 to 18, aimed at encouraging young athletes and increasing participation in team sports like hockey.

The sports complex spans approximately 8.11 hectares, with a built-up area of around 10,974 square meters. It is designed to provide better sporting amenities for the community.

Following the complex’s opening, Sandhu visited the popular local ‘Arambh Library,’ which caters to students preparing for civil service examinations. He noted the library’s high demand among students and announced plans to expand its capacity by adding over 40 seats on the upper floor.

In a post on social media platform X, Sandhu shared insights from his visit, stating, “I spent time with students preparing for various competitive exams, discussing their challenges and sharing my own experiences.” He emphasized the importance of positivity, discipline, and perseverance, encouraging students to view failures as stepping stones to success.

Additionally, the Lieutenant Governor directed enhancements to street lighting and CCTV coverage around colleges, alongside increased police patrols. He also instructed the establishment of dedicated nodal police officers and pink booths near college campuses to bolster safety.

This initiative followed a meeting with principals of women’s colleges at Delhi University, where discussions centered on safety issues faced by female students. Common concerns raised included the challenges of e-rickshaw services, inadequate last-mile connectivity, encroachments on footpaths, and the need for better lighting in dark areas.

These discussions were informed by Sandhu’s recent surprise visits to various colleges and parks, aimed at directly understanding the ground-level safety issues affecting women students and local residents.
