Ludhiana, June 22: BJP National President Nitin Naveen stated on Monday that restoring Punjab’s industrial and commercial pride is a commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and will be achieved at all costs.
He assured industrialists in Ludhiana that a conducive environment for industrial development and investment will be created in the state, alongside parallel support for agriculture.
Naveen emphasized that each sector faces unique challenges, but the government’s policy, intent, and decisive leadership play a crucial role in addressing these issues. He accused the Punjab government of not providing adequate cooperation to the central government.
He noted that Punjab’s industrial heritage has been strong, and its current state is a cause for concern. The central government and the BJP will ensure accountability for this situation.
He further stated that dialogue is essential for progress, but if any government views it with a negative mindset, development becomes impossible.
Naveen recalled witnessing the migration of industries from Punjab to Bihar during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was a minister there. He pointed out the lack of a supportive environment and infrastructure for industries in Punjab. “Without a robust industrial policy, industries cannot progress. Proper law and order and good governance are also essential,” he added.
Industrialists expressed concerns regarding law and order, organized crime, extortion, and the deteriorating governance system. Business owners from Mandi Gobindgarh highlighted that the iron recycling industry is facing a loss of nearly ₹2 lakh crore due to fraudulent Goods and Services Tax (GST) billing.
Representatives from the bicycle industry noted that while China produces 300 million bicycles, India only produces 30 million, stressing the need for a new plan. The agriculture-combine industry raised concerns about the reduction of the deadline for certification. Rice mill owners discussed the rising costs due to the U.S.-Iran conflict and increasing petrol prices, calling for subsidies on basmati rice exports.
