
Nagpur, May 30: Jamal Siddiqui, the national president of the BJP Minority Front, has reportedly received death threats via WhatsApp, along with a ransom demand. The BJP leader has filed a complaint with the Nagpur police regarding this alarming situation.
The threatening messages were sent from the mobile number 8899162823 between May 25 and May 27, prompting Siddiqui to reach out to law enforcement.
According to the FIR, unknown assailants demanded a sum ranging from ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore through UPI and bank transfers. The sender of the messages allegedly threatened to harm Siddiqui and his family if the payment was not made.
The messages also referenced bombings and targeted killings of senior Congress leaders, claiming these attacks would occur due to perceived insults directed at the sender.
Several prominent Congress figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sachin Pilot, and Mallikarjun Kharge, were specifically named in the threatening messages.
Siddiqui has provided the police with multiple WhatsApp screenshots, chat logs, and other digital evidence.
The Nagpur police have registered a case against the unidentified perpetrator under sections 308(5), 351(2), and 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminal intimidation and extortion, as well as under section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the mobile number and identify the sender through call record analysis, IP address tracking, and cyber forensics. Senior police officials have stated that teams have been deployed to prioritize the investigation.
