Shopian, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant operation, police in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, arrested seven individuals on September 5, 2026, in connection with a suspected transaction involving a rare meteorite known as “Trath Gola.” The authorities also seized ₹500,000 in cash during the operation.
According to a police statement, the arrests were made as part of an investigation into the alleged sale of the meteorite, which has been touted as both rare and valuable. The arrested individuals were taken to the Hirpora police station for questioning and further legal action.
The suspects have been identified as: Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Habibullah Bhat, a resident of Baghi Islam in Baramulla; Safiruddin Mir, son of Hanif Mir, from Rajghat in Baramulla; Abdul Rashid Kirmani, son of Ghulam Nabi Kirmani, a resident of Rawalpora in Srinagar; Mohammad Shafi Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir, from Jalura in Sopore; Imtiaz Ahmad Bakloo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bakloo, from Pusroo Shangus in Anantnag; Arshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Subhan Wani, from Khuri Batpora in Kulgam; and Syed Gulzar Ahmad, son of Syed Kamar Din, from Lakhipora Nihama in Kulgam.
During the preliminary investigation, police recovered a box containing cash and what was claimed to be the rare meteorite. Additionally, two vehicles related to the case were also brought to the Hirpora police station for further examination. An FIR has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and the investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction is ongoing.
Shopian police have warned the public to be cautious of fraudulent claims regarding rare, valuable, or meteorite stones. Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity and value of such items with competent authorities before engaging in any financial transactions.
