Lucknow, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : In Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented a vision of Uttar Pradesh’s evolving identity during the opening of the UP Textile Conclave 2026. Speaking ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, he highlighted the state’s economic policies and its historical textile tradition.
CM Yogi expressed his commitment to connecting Uttar Pradesh’s ancient textile heritage with the global market. He also criticized the opposition for the lawlessness and investment climate that prevailed before 2017.
He asserted that Uttar Pradesh is now recognized for investment, employment, and development rather than riots and crime. “The rule of law prevails, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards crime,” he stated. Previously, investors left with extortion notes; now, they can operate in a secure environment.
The Chief Minister recalled a time when riots were commonplace, and the mafia operated alongside the government. He noted that citizens often faced challenges finding rental housing in other states. “Imagining setting up industries back then was difficult; today, Uttar Pradesh is riot-free and curfew-free,” he added.
Yogi emphasized the textile sector as a cornerstone of the state’s economy, boasting rich heritage, skilled labor, and a large domestic market. From the silk of Varanasi to the carpets of Bhadohi and the industrial base of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh has a robust textile identity. Historical texts, including Vedic literature and epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, reference the textiles of Kashi.
The Chief Minister announced that 17 textile products from the state have received Geographical Indication (GI) status, with approximately 500,000 weavers involved in the industry. Uttar Pradesh contributes around 14% to the nation’s total fabric production. The government aims to develop the entire textile value chain, transforming the state into a global textile hub.
He called for support in elevating MSMEs from subcontractors to exporters and weavers from suppliers to brand owners. With 36 sector-based policies and a land bank of about 75,000 acres, he highlighted the online incentive distribution system monitored by the Chief Minister’s office.
Over the past nine years, a strong network of expressways, logistics, and multimodal connectivity has been established. The textile sector has seen investment proposals worth approximately ₹5,354 crores. Plans are underway to develop ten parks under the Sant Kabir Textile Park initiative, with work already commencing on five.
During the conclave, industry leaders acknowledged the investment potential in Uttar Pradesh. They emphasized the need for skilled labor, processing units, textile machinery, and self-sufficiency in technical textiles. The conclave served as a platform for the Yogi government to showcase its achievements in law enforcement alongside its commitment to development and investment.
