BJP Candidate Sees Stronger Than Expected Response in Bagalkot

Bagalkot, April 7: BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath from the Bagalkot assembly constituency has stated that the party is receiving a better-than-expected response in both rural and urban areas.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he emphasized the need for leadership that can strongly voice the concerns of the people. He urged voters to cast their ballots against the government, which he referred to as the “Tughlaq government.”

Charantimath accused the administration of failing to provide justice to flood victims and claimed that corruption has reached alarming levels. “When we were in power, we distributed land leases to 2,100 people. In the last three years, not a single lease has been granted,” he noted, adding that development plans are progressing at a sluggish pace.

He further alleged that despite promises of financial assistance ranging from 2.5 to 3 crore rupees, people are still not receiving land. Criticizing the government, he stated, “They make irresponsible statements claiming they will provide 30 to 40 lakh rupees.”

Charantimath asserted that announcements regarding medical colleges and Gandhi Bhavan are merely electoral tactics. The Congress party has fielded Umesh Meti against the former MLA Charantimath, following the death of his father, H.Y. Meti, which necessitated this by-election.

BJP Legislative Council member P.H. Poojari criticized the state government, claiming it is limited to making speeches and failing to allocate sufficient funds for irrigation. He mentioned that even the Chief Minister’s economic advisor, Basavaraj Rayareddy, has indicated that it seems the government has forgotten the Krishna Upper Canal Project.

He reported that although the budget promised increased funding, only 2,600 crore rupees have been allocated for this project. Expressing concern, he warned that if funding continues at this pace, it could take 20 to 25 years to complete the project. He added that the government has been in power for three years, yet there has been minimal progress, leading to public disillusionment.
