Lucknow, June 26: Ravi Das Mehrotra, a legislator from the Samajwadi Party, has leveled serious accusations against the central and BJP governments, claiming they are crushing democracy and operating with a dictatorial mindset. He emphasized that the Samajwadi Party has always fought for the preservation of democracy and will continue to do so.
In an interview, Mehrotra stated, “The Samajwadi Party has engaged in significant struggles to protect democracy. Fifty-one years ago, during the Emergency, I spent 20 months in prison. The struggle against the Emergency was a movement for the restoration of democracy. The Samajwadi Party was born from these struggles and will always fight to save democracy.”
He alleged that the BJP is currently the biggest threat to democracy. “Through intimidation from agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax, a dictatorial government is being enforced in the country,” he remarked.
On the inclusion of chapters related to the Emergency in the NCERT curriculum, Mehrotra said, “We have long demanded that students learn about the atrocities and injustices of the Emergency. Additionally, education on AI and the new era is essential.”
Questioning the ED’s request for documents related to a ₹600 crore money laundering scam in Delhi, he stated, “The ED should reveal the major scams and the individuals involved. The government must clarify why no action has been taken against the guilty parties.”
Targeting Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Mehrotra claimed, “All ministers in the BJP government are involved in corruption. Public funds are being looted, and now they are even stealing offerings meant for the Ram Temple. The state government is responsible for the theft at the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The Chief Minister has no moral right to remain in power.”
Regarding attempts to undermine the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, he asserted, “The BJP has tried to dismantle the TMC by instilling fear through the ED and CBI. The real TMC is led by Mamata Banerjee, and all leaders and workers across Bengal stand with her.”
Discussing Maharashtra, Mehrotra stated, “The BJP is deliberately trying to break opposition parties out of revenge. Shiv Sena MPs have demanded action against rebel MPs from the Lok Sabha Speaker. The Speakers of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha should ensure that MPs who leave their parties resign from their positions first.”
On the encounter of Bharat Tiwari in Bihar, the SP legislator called it ‘fake,’ stating, “He had surrendered before the police, yet he was killed. This will forever be a stain on the Bihar government. A judicial inquiry should be conducted, and strict action must be taken against the culprits.”
He claimed that “the PDA society in UP has aligned with the SP. No matter what the BJP does, they will not receive the PDA’s votes.”
Regarding the ongoing actions against Azam Khan, he described it as ‘vengeful,’ asserting, “Azam Khan is not one to be intimidated or broken.”
