Agartala, June 26: Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Thursday that the state government is rapidly implementing development projects to ensure that even the most marginalized individuals benefit from socio-economic progress, quality healthcare, and improved administrative facilities.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Tripura has made significant strides in various sectors, including healthcare, education, tourism, information technology, and infrastructure, creating a favorable environment for investment and economic growth. As a result, investors from different parts of the country are showing keen interest in investing in Tripura.
Saha laid the foundation stone for a new building of the 100-bed Sepahijala District Hospital and inaugurated 24/7 emergency and indoor patient department (IPD) services at the Lalsinghmura Primary Health Center. He also virtually inaugurated several development projects across different parts of the district.
Addressing the event, Saha stated that under Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership, the state government is implementing various welfare and development initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the people.
Emphasizing achievements in the healthcare sector, he mentioned significant efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and enhance access to quality medical services across the state. To provide better health services, the number of beds at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital has been increased from 727 to 1,413. The capacity of the Gomati District Hospital has also been doubled. A cardiac care unit has been established in Ambassa, ensuring specialized treatment is available close to home for those living in remote areas.
The Chief Minister further noted that beneficiaries are receiving improved healthcare services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), with nearly ₹300 crore spent on this initiative. Additionally, the state’s residents have availed ₹41.74 crore worth of medical services under the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Scheme.
He also announced the construction of a 100-bed eye hospital near ILS Hospital in Agartala to strengthen specialized healthcare services. The government is also taking steps to promote alternative medical systems by establishing homeopathy and Ayurvedic medical colleges to enhance educational opportunities in the healthcare sector.
Telemedicine services have been launched to benefit people living in remote and rural areas. Trauma care centers have been established in all districts to ensure timely treatment for accident victims and emergency patients.
Saha mentioned the state’s economic achievements, stating that Tripura currently ranks second among northeastern states in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income. The NITI Aayog has recognized Tripura as a ‘front-runner’ state based on its performance across various development and governance metrics.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive development by enhancing healthcare infrastructure, improving connectivity, creating job opportunities, and overall improving the quality of life for the people.
