Bihars Political Debate: Nitish Model vs. Samrat Model Heats Up

Patna, March 20: A new political controversy has emerged in Bihar amid the ongoing debate between the ‘Nitish Model’ and the ‘Samrat Model,’ revealing clear unease within the NDA coalition.

The dispute began following a post by BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar on X, which was interpreted by allies as an attempt to promote an alternative leadership narrative centered around Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. In response, leaders from Janata Dal (United) and other NDA allies asserted that only the ‘Nitish Model’ is relevant in Bihar’s politics.

JD(U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar firmly stated that there is no parallel model in the state. He emphasized that only one model is functioning in Bihar—the Nitish Model. He further highlighted that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remains a central figure in the state’s governance and political framework. Kumar noted that while Samrat Chaudhary currently oversees the Home Department and is naturally active in administrative matters, this does not imply the emergence of a distinct Samrat Model.

Central Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi also weighed in, asserting that any future Chief Minister of Bihar must follow Nitish Kumar’s governance style. Manjhi remarked that whoever succeeds Nitish Kumar must tread in his footsteps; otherwise, they will struggle politically and fail to remain in power.

Echoing similar sentiments, Upendra Kushwaha, head of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), dismissed the idea of a Samrat Model. He stressed that an established development framework already exists under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. Kushwaha stated that Bihar has its own model, and there is no need for alternatives. Any future government will continue along this path.

These developments highlight the internal tensions within the NDA in Bihar, even as allies publicly reaffirm their support for Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

Earlier, on Friday, BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar’s post sparked a new controversy within the NDA coalition. In his statement, the BJP leader claimed that since Samrat Chaudhary took charge of the Home Department, significant actions have been taken to curb crime in the state.

He emphasized that criminals now operate under fear, and there has been considerable improvement in law and order under Chaudhary’s leadership. Drawing a comparison to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he stated that just as the Yogi Model is associated with strict policing, a Samrat Model is now emerging in Bihar. He further claimed that if current trends continue, crime could be entirely eradicated from Bihar within three months.
