Bihars Bijendra Prasad Yadav Appointed Deputy Chief Minister in New Cabinet

Patna, April 15: Bijendra Prasad Yadav has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, joining the cabinet alongside Samrat Chaudhary. This significant role is seen as a reward for his loyalty to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Yadav has been a consistent presence in Kumar’s cabinets, whether during the NDA or the Grand Alliance. He has served as a minister since 2005. Hailing from Murli in Supaul district, he is the son of the late Sukhram Yadav, who was also a village head. Yadav has held ministerial positions even during the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) government.

Notably, he has previously managed the Energy Ministry, where he successfully implemented a campaign to provide electricity to every household. Under his tenure, consumers received 125 units of free electricity. In the last cabinet led by Nitish, he oversaw multiple departments, including Planning and Development, Finance, and Prohibition. He is expected to be assigned a significant portfolio in Samrat Chaudhary’s new cabinet.

Yadav leads the Supaul constituency in the assembly and was re-elected for the ninth time in the recent elections. He is regarded as one of the most influential leaders in the Kosi region. His political journey began with the JP movement, and he first contested elections in 1990 on a Janata Dal ticket, defeating Congress’s Pramod Kumar Singh. Over the years, Nitish Kumar’s trust in him has only strengthened, contributing to his rising political stature.
