DK Shivakumar Claims BJP Conspiracy Behind Vinay Kulkarnis Conviction

New Delhi, April 18: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President DK Shivakumar has alleged that the conviction of Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni in the murder case of district panchayat member Yogesh Gowda is a conspiracy orchestrated by the BJP.

While addressing media questions at the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, Shivakumar stated that Kulkarni has been ensnared in a plot. He urged party workers to remain resilient during this challenging time.

Shivakumar emphasized that Kulkarni is facing difficulties due to the BJP’s conspiracy and reassured him that there is no need to lose hope. He acknowledged that such struggles are common in politics and expressed confidence that Kulkarni would overcome this challenge.

Referring to the life sentence handed down by the court, Shivakumar expressed respect for the judiciary but insisted that Kulkarni has been wrongfully implicated. He stated, “I have full respect for the court. A significant conspiracy has been devised in this case. The CBI conducted an investigation while filing the ‘B’ report and harassed him. Kulkarni has been trapped as part of this conspiracy.”

He mentioned that there is a 30-day window to file an appeal and has spoken with Kulkarni’s family regarding the next steps. He affirmed his belief in Kulkarni’s innocence, swearing by the God in whom he believes.

Despite his strong assertions, Shivakumar reiterated the importance of respecting the court’s decision and assured support for Kulkarni’s family. He stated, “We must honor the court’s ruling. In my view, he has done nothing wrong. We will stand by his family and provide moral support. Ultimately, the truth will prevail.”

Drawing from his own experiences, Shivakumar noted that he has faced conspiracies in the past but eventually received relief from the Supreme Court.

He expressed confidence that justice would also be served in Kulkarni’s case. When asked about the alleged conspirators, Shivakumar indicated that he would address this at the appropriate time. He also questioned the circumstances under which the case was handed over to the CBI.

Shivakumar accused former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa of claiming prior knowledge of the situation, asking, “How did he know this beforehand?” He asserted that BJP leaders have orchestrated this conspiracy as a strong political figure was emerging in North Karnataka.

It is noteworthy that a special court in Bengaluru sentenced Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to double life imprisonment in the murder case of Yogesh Gowda. The court found them guilty of criminal conspiracy and murder, ordering a compensation of 1.6 million rupees to the victim’s family and imposing a total fine of 1.25 million rupees on the accused.
