Opposition Celebrates Victory as Constitution Amendment Bill is Rejected

New Delhi, April 18: Political tensions escalated following the rejection of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. Opposition parties hailed this as a significant victory, accusing the BJP government of attempting to undermine southern states through redistricting.

RSP MP N.K. Premachandran stated, “This is a major success for the united opposition. All opposition parties have come together. This is not a defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill, but rather a defeat of the redistricting bill. Women know that the Women’s Reservation Bill is still in place and active. The BJP’s ‘backdoor agenda’ regarding redistricting has completely failed.”

TMC MP Kirti Azad accused the government of dishonesty, asserting, “This was not about the Women’s Reservation Bill. It was passed in 2023. They are lying. Today, this is still not about the Women’s Reservation Bill. By bringing in a bill related to redistricting and playing clever games, their intentions have been exposed. They wrongly linked it to the Women’s Reservation, but it was actually about redistricting.”

SP MP Ikra Chaudhary remarked, “Members of the ruling party are uninformed. They do not understand what is happening in Parliament. The bill rejected today was actually an amendment aimed at implementing redistricting according to their preferences. We are pleased that this bill did not pass.”

SP MP Priya Saroj added, “This is just the beginning. The message they wanted to convey—that the opposition is against women—has not succeeded at all.”

CPI MP P. Santosh Kumar commented, “Reservation for women has now become a reality in our country. The Women’s Reservation Bill of 2023 was passed unanimously with the support of the entire opposition. What failed tonight was the BJP government’s attempt to reshape India’s political landscape.”

RLP leader and MP Hanuman Beniwal stated, “Their sole aim is to gain an advantage in the Bengal and Tamil Nadu elections. They have no real interest in women’s reservation.”

DMK MP Thamizhaichi Thangapandian expressed, “We have always supported the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed in 2023. Now, bringing in a redistricting bill under the guise of women’s reservation was a dangerous move. We have defeated the associated redistricting bill because advancing it would impact fair representation for southern states.”

IUML MP E.T. Mohammed Basheer described the rejection as a significant blow to the BJP government. He said, “This is a major setback for the BJP government. They had a hidden agenda in this matter. Their intentions were malicious. All such cunning plans have failed. The unity of the opposition has prevailed. It has been proven that if opposition parties unite, they can face any challenge.”

Basheer further stated, “The original Women’s Reservation Bill of 2023 has shown that collaboration with the opposition is possible, but the BJP attempted another deceitful act, and thus they faced the consequences.”

Opposition parties unanimously agree that the Women’s Reservation Bill of 2023 is already in effect and should be implemented immediately. They have labeled the attempt to link redistricting with women’s reservation as a conspiracy against southern states. The opposition claims that their unity has thwarted the BJP government’s hidden agenda.
